A recent paper from GPCUK stated that there is a wide variability of sessional GP representation within LMCs across the UK.
While, given the constitutional independence of LMCs, it is difficult for GPCUK to direct & influence LMC behaviour, it was proposed that LMCs give greater consideration to the representation of all constituent practices.
The paper recommends a number of changes which LMCs could make to their structures to encourage greater sessional participation, including making clear that it is the explicit policy recommendation of GPC UK that all GPs working within an LMC’s area should be covered by the levy payments of the practice and no locum or sessional GP should be made to pay individually for representation.
This has always been the practice of Gwent LMC, so there is no need for change. However, it is felt that in order to reflect the growing numbers of sessional and locum GPs that we should be proactive in increasing the proportionality of Sessional representatives on the LMC committee.
To such effect I am advertising a Vacancy for a sessional representative.
There are also Vacancies for representatives from Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Newport boroughs.
